The Lawyers You Deserve Pursuing The Best Possible Resolutions

Experienced Representation Through Child Custody & Visitation

The determination of child custody and visitation has tremendous potential to cause conflict. No parents willingly allow what they may view as an impact to the relationship they have with their children. Everyone has very strong ideas and emotions that can shape how child custody issues are viewed.

You need experienced lawyers who know the law and how to present the appropriate evidence in court so that the best interests of the children are considered when the court makes child custody determinations.

There are two key components of child custody:

  • Legal custody Being awarded legal custody grants you the right to make major decisions regarding the upbringing of your child on issues such as religion, education and health care.
  • Physical custody The child resides with the parent who is awarded physical custody, who typically will make the day-to-day decisions. The other parent is said to have visitation.

Shared Custody

However, when a child will benefit from significant contributions from both parents, it is often wise to consider some form of shared custody. Having both parents play an active part in the child’s life is a goal that the courts try to achieve when possible. While a single parent is awarded physical custody, joint legal custody is often a shared responsibility.
